An extra hour of sleep will be available this weekend when Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday. Clocks are to be set back one hour, officially at 2 a.m. Sunday, to Standard Time.
Most cell phones and computers are set to automatically turn the clock back, but cars, alarm clocks, watches and wall clocks need to be adjusted manually.
The purpose of Daylight Saving Time is to maximize evening daylight during the summer months. Clocks will return back to Daylight Saving Time March 13, 2016, when clocks spring forward.
Random fact about Daylight Saving Time: In 1999, Daylight Saving Time actually thwarted a terrorist attack in Israel. According to an article called “Daylight Saving Time History & Fun Facts” on acurite.com, the West Bank was on Daylight Saving Time but Israel had just switched back to Standard Time, as different countries observe the start and end to Daylight Saving Time during different weekends. The West Bank terrorists prepared time bombs and smuggled them to their Israeli counterparts who planted the bombs, which exploded one hour too early, killing the terrorists instead of the intended victims.
