Cross country elims slated at Cheney Fairways

Next stop for the Colfax and Tekoa/Rosalia cross country teams will be Saturday for the NE-SE regional run set for the Fairways Golf Course at Cheney. Teams from the NE and SE will compete in the run with the top 30 boys and the top 20 girls advancing to the state final next week at Sun Willows in Pasco. First race will be the girls start a 4:10 p.m.

Colfax boys finished sixth with a 142 team score in the all-NE cross country race Saturday at Audubon Park in Spokane. Tim Cornelius led the Bulldogs by placing 18th with an 18:55 clocking behind the 16:33 win clocked by NWC's Jack Ammon. St. George's took the team title with a score of 54.

Also placing for the Bulldogs were Chase Baerlocher, 21st at 19:06; Cal Gregory, 32nd at 19:54; Carson Cloaninger, 43rd at 20:32; Josh Goebel, 54th at 21:27, and Doug Willson, 58th at 21:48.

Rebecca Huber placed 26th in the girls’ district run with a 25:50, and Alicia Knee clocked in five seconds later for 27th. Madison Ward of St. George's won the all-NE race with a 19.22 for the 5,000 meters. Thirty-five girls entered.

Finishers for the Tekoa/Rosalia boys at Audubon were Gavin Merritt, 26th, 19:14; Issac Leighton, 46th, 20:54; Zane Neill, 66th 22:35; Jaedyn Norwood, 71st, 23:17, and Eric Nelson, 75th at 25:26. They place eighth on the team chart with 213 points.
