With two games remaining in the season, the St. John-Endicott Eagles are looking to compete to the end.
Coming off of a 69-0 loss to Touchet and 68-6 final to Dayton, the Eagles (0-8, 0-6 league) will travel to Richland to play Liberty Christian (8-0, 4-0 league).
The Eagles are pushing toward the end of the season with a diminished roster. Against Touchet they suited up 13 players, and on the following Monday – due to flu absences – only six players made it to the practice field.
Against Touchet, St. John-Endicott coach Ken Gering and his team saw a distinct display from quarterback Carlos Rincon. Also the team's kicker, he hit a power pole just beyond the center of the uprights on his first extra-point try, then did it again and again.
“If somebody isn't looking at him (to recruit), they're not looking in the right place,” said Gering.
This week, St. John-Endicott prepares for Liberty Christian quarterback John Lesser, now the state's all-time eight-man football career leader in rushing and all-purpose touchdowns.
He set the mark last week against Colton.
“He didn't build those stats by being slow and stupid,” said Gering. “That's the reality of it right there.”
St. John-Endicott will conclude their season Thursday, Nov. 4, at Sunnyside Christian.
