Serving Whitman County since 1877
Payment of a bill for the newly-posted Wayfaring signs around Colfax has been delayed because the signs lack contrast and are difficult to read. Zumar Industries of Tacoma has billed the city $5,979 for the signs, which were posted by city crews last week in advance of the PAC-12 race. The signs advise motorists of locations of scenic sites from different locations around Colfax.
Coloring on the signs was found to be too light to provide contrast and make the signs readable for motorists. A Zumar representative has been slated to visit and check out the signs.
Funds for the Wayfaring project came from the county's .09 sales tax fund and from the motel room surtax fund which has also been used to paint part of the Codger Pole and for other projects.
