Colfax has hosted some different, fun events recently.

First, ghost hunters from around the nation converged on the town for two weeks. They came to “investigate” paranormal activities at the old hospital.

A good scare is hard to beat. Most of those who took the tour of the hospital had a good, if not unusual, time. Those who reported being spooked seemed to have had the most fun.

Second, the PAC-12 Cross Country Meet was held at the Colfax Golf and Country Club. Runners from PAC-12 schools ran a circuit around the golf course.

Two races were held, one for the women and one for the men. Compliments abounded for the preparation and the execution of the races. The men's coach accepted the compliments, although locals played a great part in the success of the event.

The races and the ghost hunting tours brought hundreds of people into town and other parts of the county. Pullman benefited because of its ability to house so many, but local businesses benefited as well, some staying open late to accommodate the visitors.

The ghost tours came about because of locals thinking outside the box and trying something new and different. The PAC-12 race came about because WSU wanted a course different than its traditional one, but it actually occurred because locals were able and willing to accommodate the conference.

Neither would have happened without some real planning, preparation and effort on the part of townspeople.

Ghost tours and PAC-12 events are not likely day-to-day events in Colfax. Both, however, show what the possibilities may be and what may be accomplished. A little fun never hurts.

These events have highlighted the town in a positive way. More important, they highlighted what locals can accomplish to bring success to the town.
