'Silent Storytime' at Rosalia library

Pre-schoolers at Rosalia explored what it would be like to be deaf during a special Silent Storytime experience recently at the Rosalia library.

For several weeks prior to the event, children learned the alphabet and several songs in sign language.

The morning of the event many chose to wear earplugs.

The books of the day were wordless but with vivid illustration allowing the participants to still understand the stories.

Rosalia branch manager Marcy Campbell didn’t speak at all from the Hello song through the Goodbye song.

Later, the children and parents joined in a discussion about appropriate interactions with people who have difficulty hearing.

Rosalia preschool storytimes are Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.

Rosalia library is open Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m.

- 2 p.m.

and Thursdays from 3 to 7 p.m.
