Endicott students honor 25 veterans

Endicott

Approximately 25 veterans attended the school Veteran's Day program in the gym.

Chais Anderson, student body president, welcomed everyone and announced the presentation of the flag.

The National Anthem was played by the high school wind ensemble.

Principal Bruce Porubek introduced special guests.

Second and third graders performed “Thank a Vet” by Mike Wilson.

Grades four and five presented "A Veteran's Thank You." Mike Anderson presented a “Letter from Korea,” and the sixth grade recited "In Flanders Fields." The high school ensemble, directed by Billy Ray, played "An American Salute" and "Marches of the Armed Forces." As the song for each service branch was played veterans from the branch stood up at attention.

Guest speaker was Skip Colyar, a Marine veteran who served from 1969 to 1971 and spoke about his time in Vietnam and what it means to be a veteran and fight for freedom. A slide show included photos of veterans from the Endicott area. Ray played "Taps," and the flag was retired.

Endicott School Nov. 9 honored grandparents and veterans. Porubek started grandparents day by presenting flowers to Jackie Lust, who, with her husband Don, started grandparents day in early 2000. Grandparents attended classrooms and participated in projects. Each student then escorted their grandparent into the cafeteria for lunch with mashed potatoes, turkey gravy, tossed salad, fresh rolls and apple crisp dessert on the menu.

Endicott Community Club met Nov. 3. The German dinner and auction was discussed. They decided to distribute $1,000 each to Endicott School, Town of Endicott, library, fire department, Parks and Recreation and cemetery districts.

They made plans for the tree lighting and Santa visit Dec. 5.

Sunday, Trinity Lutheran Church hosted the second Celebration Concert with Louise Owen organizing the event. Musical participants were Tina Scholz, harpist; Kathy Schlomer and Judy Lobe, organist; Gay Nelson and Jana Nelsen, pianist; Rory Maloney and Keira Maloney playing solos; The Alpine Carillons from First United Methodist Church in Moscow the Bell Ringers Andy Crossler, Becky Barnes, Bryce Nance, Corrinne Carey, Denise Crossler, Kristin McMullin, Mayalisa Borderkircher, Micki Mennet-Martin, Terry Evans and Tony Burt.

Endicott community choir members Margaret Schmick, Sharon Storment, Pam Johnson, Nancy Anderson, Sheena Becker, Jenny Meyer, Jerine Grey, Georgia Wells, David Wells, Tia Langston, Lorna Burns, Greg Burns, Carol Larson, Vernon Weber, Mike Anderson, Gail Bilow, Jamie Misner, Debbie Wolfe, Louise Owen, Kathy Schlomer, Alan Rush and Pat Myers sang, Sue Bafus hosted the reception.

Myrna Morasch made wheat arrangements and Barbara Strader did the advertising. The bell ringers invited anyone wishing to examine the bells and hear a little of their history to come forward after the concert.

Trinity Lutheran Church and Community Bible Church handed out grocery bags earlier in week. They picked the bags up on Nov. 15. The donated goods will be distributed to local families in need during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. There was a drop off location at the Endicott Food Center.

Saturday, Endicott Food Center hosted a shop locally for Christmas event with 14 venders selling items.

Sharon Huff just returned from Seaton Hall College, Pa., to share Senior Night with her granddaughter Shelby Kyllo. Traveling with Sharon was Peggy Bryan of LaCrosse. They met up with Sharon's daughter Sheryl, Terry and Lauren Kyllo for the visit with Shelby. Shelby plays volleyball for Seaton Hall.

Dad's Night In Pinochle club met at the home of Marsha Honn. Ladies attending were Sharon Huff, Anne Lowe, Jerine Grey, Judy Cook, Bertie Honn, Shirley Morasch, Mary Repp, Kathy Storment, Kathy Scholmer, Irma Kent and Marsha Honn. Prizes were won by Sharon Huff, Bertie Honn, Irma Kent and Anne Lowe.
