The Hayes’ tend to a member of their herd on their ranch two miles south of Ewan.

Edward and Karen Hayes of Ewan will mark their 60th wedding anniversary with family Nov. 26.
Both are members of the 1952 class of St. John High School.
Hayes and Karen Schneidmiller were married Nov. 26, 1955, at the United Methodist Church in St. John.
Hayes was born Sept. 12, 1933, and Karen Schneidmiller was born April 5, 1934.
He attended Washington State College and received a degree in general agriculture from Eastern Washington State College.
Karen also attended EWSC, where she studied business, and then went on to work for Roundup Wholesale in Spokane as a secretary and bookkeeper.
The couple took their honeymoon in Escondido, Calif., where they visited her grandparents, Peck and Wilma Lockhart. From there, they went to San Luis Obispo, Calif., where he attended Cal Poly Tech and received a degree in agricultural engineering.
They then moved home to St. John where he worked for his father, E.M. Hayes Sr., until 1961.
They then bought a ranch two miles south of Ewan where they raised their two children, cattle and horses.
Their children are John Hayes of Kingman, Ariz., and Kathy Hayes Schmick of Endicott.
Their three grandchildren are Cherie, Samantha and Shawn Schmick.
