Colton girls prove up in second Bulldog match

Colton girls, who defeated Colfax with sharp shooting at the end of a short jamboree match last Monday at Colfax, proved up Friday night when they defeated the Bulldogs 66-53 in the new Colton gym. Colton served up another ration of their tough defense and ripped to a 37-21 lead in the first half. Colfax had just six buckets from the field in the half.

Zoe Moser finished with a game high 28 points. Moser was a focus of Colfax defense, and she collected 14 of 16 shots off the toss line for the night.

Ashtyn Aune hit 17 to lead the Bulldogs at Colton. She dropped in four thee-point shots.

The Wildcats collected on a total of nine three-pointers for the night with Moser, MaryAnn Jacobs, Meghhan Devorak and Kendyl Druffel each hitting two threebies.

Five of the starters in the county 2B-1B battle fouled out with the Bulldogs losing Sidney Sheer, Carmen Gfeller and Taylor Garcia and the Wildcats losing Moser and Druffel.

After Friday's battle at Colton, the Bulldog girls returned home and blitzed Deer Park 45-19 Saturday night with Gfeller hitting 21 points. The Bulldogs staked a 19-3 lead in the first quarter against a Deer Park team which never really got into a groove. They finished with just three buckets from the floor and garnered their other 13 bean off the toss line.

Aune added three threebies in her mix of 10 points in the second game.

The Bulldogs will host a Liberty team which defeated Waitsburg 52-36. The Lancers were led Tuesday by junior Christine Denny who hit 26 points.

Saturday, Colfax will face a tough Lind/Ritzville/Sprague squad which downed Medical Lake 48-27 in a non-leaguer Tuesday. The Bronco girls Tuesday were led by 15 points from Peyton Curtis and 13 from Tammi Swannack.

The Broncos graduated just two seniors off their team from last year.
