Colfax boys will seek NE win at St. George’s

After two derailments in the first weekend of NE play, the Colfax Bulldogs will try to get on track Friday when the team heads to St. George's to play the Dragons. They will go up against a Dragons team which hammered Tekoa-Rosalia in the Saturday night league round 70-33.

Colfax was clipped by Liberty 62-54 Friday night on the home court with Lancer junior Chase Burnham finishing with 26 points. Burnham hit his range in the second half when he collected a bundle inside the three-point line.

Liberty dropped 21 points on the Bulldogs in the last quarter to decide the close battle Friday. Colfax, which had a strong second quarter, scratched out a 28-27 lead for the half.

Liberty started with a 9-2 lead in the first three minutes, but Colfax came back to tie it up at 11-11. Colfax junior Danny Robinson, who finished with a game-high 29 points for the night, hitting his second threebie for the tie shot.

Liberty senior guard Jake Pottratz, who finished with 18 points, hit a trey shot to put the Lancers back on top, but Keith Gfeller, who finished with 12, answered with a trey later in the quarter to knot another tie at 19-19.

The Bulldogs took their first lead in the game at 24-23 with 2:56 left in the second quarter and had the one-point edge at the break.

The game tied at the end of the third quarter, and the Lancers then closed it out with their 21-point blast in the last quarter.

Pottratz hit three 3-pointers for the night.

Saturday at Lind/Ritzville/Sprague, the Broncos, who posted a big win over St. George’s in the Friday round, put on a sprint in the last three minutes of the game to post a 52-47 win over the Bulldogs.

Colfax had a 39-36 lead after three quarters, and they hung on for a 47-46 edge with Kenton Lyman putting one in under the basket. That turned out to be the last Bulldog points of the game, while the host Broncos put down six more with Wyatt Roettinger, who finished with 15 points, dropping the last shot in the final 30 seconds.

Robinson again led Colfax with 24 points in the second league game.

After Friday's trip to St. George's, the Bulldogs will host Lakeside in a non-leaguer Saturday and then host Dayton next Tuesday.
