County 1B girls: League action gets underway

The 4-0 Colton girls picked up their 75th consecutive win and inched closer to matching the state all-time boys winning streak this week as league action got underway around the county. A slate of more league games will take place this weekend, featuring a matchup between the Oakesdale and Pomeroy girls, for which many of the players will face off again after the Nighthawks beat Pomeroy in the state 1B volleyball championship in November.

Tekoa-Rosalia 57, Garfield-Palouse 39

Tommia Pakootas' five three-pointers and 17 points led the Timberwolves at home over Gar-Pal Tuesday night. Keely Burns led the Vikings with 15 points.

St. John-Endicott 60, Wellpinit 36

Abby Glorfield delivered 36 points, five rebounds and two assists for the Eagles in a home victory over Wellpinit (2-2) Tuesday. Gracie Dickerson added nine points, 14 rebounds and nine assists for St. John-Endicott (2-2).

LaCrosse-Washtucna-Kahlotus 46, Prescott 35

Jazzmyn Gordon had 19 points, 14 rebounds and five assists in a home Tigercat victory Tuesday. Autumn Meyers added 11 points for L-W-K.

Colton 88, LaCrosse-Washtucna-Kahlotus 9

MaryAnn Jacobs' six three pointers led Colton (4-0) while Meghan Devorak added five in Colton's 75th consecutive victory Dec. 12.

Jacobs scored 18 points on the night while Devorak had 17. Zoe Moser and Rachel Meyer both scored 10.

Colton's girls all-levels state-record winning streak is now approaching Washington's all-time boys record of 82 games, set by Brewster from 1973-77.

Oakesdale 42, Garfield-Palouse 30

Logan Reed led the Nighthawks with 12 points while Lindsey Lindgren scored 10 as Oakesdale beat Gar-Pal Dec. 12.

Freshman Keely Burnes scored 12 points to lead the Vikings.

Oakesdale 46, Asotin 44

Reed hit a three-pointer with five seconds remaining to lift the Nighthawks over Asotin Dec. 11.

Playing at Asotin, Reed led the team with 18 points while Jacey Johnson added 10 and Anne Hockett nine. The win put Oakesdale at 3-1 on the season.

Colton 61, Grangeville 44

Colton trailed by three at the end of the first quarter before taking control of the game in the second, in a non-league win at Grangeville.

Rachel Meyer led the Wildcats with 17 points and Dakota Patchen and Zoe Moser each scored 13. Meghan Devorak added five points and seven rebounds.
