By a point, Garfield-Palouse remains undefeated going into Christmas break after a narrow escape at Colton Tuesday night. The Vikings (9-0, 4-0 in league) will play next at Potlatch Dec. 29 in a non-league game.
Garfield-Palouse 55, Colton 54
Gar-Pal-Colton went to the wall Tuesday, when Matt Holbrook's three-pointer with 31 seconds left proved just enough to keep the Vikings unbeaten. After the shot, two Gar-Pal defensive stops in the full-court press held off Colton's last response.
The Wildcats hit nine three-point shots in the game, a night which they led 45-43 going into the fourth quarter.
Holbrook's 25 points led all scorers, adding nine rebounds, five steals and four assists. Ian Niebergs had eight points and 10 rebounds while Mason Bates scored seven.
Brady Chadwick led Colton with 20 points, Grant Kinzer scored 12 and Carter Dahmen 10.
Garfield-Palouse 70, St. John-Endicott 29
Matt Holbrook's 16 points, six assists and five rebounds led the Vikings over the Eagles Dec. 19. Mason Bates added 12 points and eight rebounds and Mitch Dymkoski scored 11.
Adam Blakeley led St. John-Endicott (0-6, 0-3) with 13 points on the night.
Pomeroy 78, Colton 63
Grant Kinzer's 11 consecutive points in the second half kept Colton close but it wasn't enough as Pomeroy hit key free throws to pull away in Colton.
Jacob Tewalt led the Pirates with 21 points, including four free throws off technical fouls from Colton coach Jason Shull and senior post player Luke Moore.
Devon Caruso scored 17 points for Pomeroy while Oscar Morfin added 11.
Colton's law firm of Kinzer, Chadwick and Dahmen – Grant, Brady and Carter – billed 47 of the Wildcats' 63 points.
The night before, Colton lost in Richland to Liberty Christian, 73-55.
Touchet 66, Oakesdale 47
Carlos Rincon scored 11 points and Lot Butler put in 10 with nine rebounds as Touchet beat the Nighthawks (2-6, 1-3) in Oakesdale. Tanner Dingman led for Oakesdale with 11 points.
