Water meter spurt

Chris Clark of Colfax Public Works stifles a spewing water meter at 213 N. Main Street Monday afternoon. The water meter was spitting water to approximately one foot above the sidewalk. Here, Clark pumps the excess water onto the street after turning the meter off. Public Works Director Matt Hammer said the meter was fitted with a freeze plate that is designed to break if the meter freezes, and Clark installed a new one. He added that to avoid a frozen meter during sub freezing weather residents can leave a trickle of water running.
