Plans move ahead for waste pond

Plans to build a second pond or install an enclosed storage tank at the Whitman County Solid Waste Transfer Facility are moving ahead.

Public Works Director Mark Storey Tuesday briefed county commissioners about the project that would aid in the processing of contaminants at the site.

“We’re trying to switch up the design now,” said Storey, noting their goal was to decide on the concept and meet with the Department of Ecology in March for it to be built this fall or next spring.

“We probably could get away with one tank,” said Storey. “We’re thinking double tank.”
