JAMES KENT

James Wyman Kent, 90, died Jan. 21, 2016, at Pullman Regional Hospital in Pullman. Jim will be buried at the Shelton Memorial Park, near his loved ones, Saturday, Feb. 6, at 1 p.m. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Agate Grange, outside of Shelton.

Born to Thomas H. and Esther M. (Wyman) Kent in Judith Gap, Mont., Nov. 14, 1925, he moved with his family to Seattle as a young boy and lived in a home in the Freemont district.

He attended Lincoln High School, where he lettered in track and football. He then joined the Army Air Corps, hoping to become a pilot. However, the war ended prior to his completion. At the end of his two years, he enrolled in the University of Washington, where he competed in track and football. After an injury, he transferred to Western Washington College to pursue his education degree and compete in his two sports.

He met Lois King while attending WWC. Lois was also an education major, and they were married Dec. 18, 1948. They graduated in 1949 and began their teaching careers in a small school house in Galvin, outside of Centralia. From there they moved onto more conventional schools in Centralia. He eventually became the superintendent of the district. Lois took a few years off to raise their family.

When not working, he and his family enjoyed many grand adventures at the bay in Shelton where Lois had been raised. He loved the water and the outdoors.

After retirement, Jim and Lois did some traveling before settling down in Shelton. At the time of his death, Jim had just moved to Palouse to be closer to their son Scott and his family there.

He is survived by wife Lois, sister Mary Lou Frank, sister-in-law Mary Kent, son Scott (Patti), daughter Barb (Bill) Larson, daughter-in-law Kathy (Bill), seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by a son, Jeff.

RICHARD I. MATLOCK

Richard I. Matlock, a resident of Farmington for the past four months, died Nov. 18, 2015, in Pullman.

Born Sept. 2, 1949, in San Diego, Calif., to Donald and Beverly Krouse Matlock, he was raised in California where he attended schools, then later moved to the Boise, Idaho, area. In Boise, Richard married Juanita Carter in 1975. The couple had no children.

He worked as a butcher, a cement mason, an apartment manager and as a caretaker of an estate in northern Idaho. He moved from the Bonners Ferry area to Farmington in August to be near his family.

He enjoyed deer hunting, camping, target shooting and cooking. He loved his dogs, Rusty and Sam.

Survivors include one brother, Jim Matlock of Wasilla, Alaska; three sisters, Rose Anna Anderson of Farmington, Cindy Stewart of Boise, and Ellen Boyack of Meridian, Idaho. Also surviving are step-mother Thea Matlock of Caldwell, Idaho. He was preceded in death his wife, Juanita.

BRITTANY INEZ POESY

A memorial service for Brittany Inez Poesy, 21, will be Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Potlatch Elementary School Gymnasium with Floyd and Nancy Turner officiating. Brittany died at Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene Jan. 28, 2016.

Born Jan. 12, 1995, at Moscow, to Russell and Tori Michael Poesy, she attended the Potlatch Schools and graduated from the Potlatch High School in 2013. She moved to Coeur d’Alene to attended North Idaho College to earn a degree in nursing.

She loved music, especially Elvis, her friends and family. She loved spending time outdoors.

Survivors include her parents, Russell and Cathi Poesy, Potlatch, Idaho; mother, Tori Poesy, Tensed; one brother, James Buchanan, Potlatch; sister, Nadia (Jason) Elder, Lewiston; paternal grandparents, Sandy Poesy and Laureen Poesy, both Potlatch; maternal grandparents, Frank Michael, Emida, Idaho, and Bill and Nadine Dreisbach, St. Maries, Idaho, and step-grandmother, Lynn Jacobs, Massachusetts.

Dale W. Stanard, 71, long-time resident of Colfax, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016, at his home in Colfax. In accordance with his request, a funeral service will not be conducted.

Born Aug. 15, 1944, in Los Angeles to Glenn and Crystal Spafford Stanard, he moved with his family to Spokane Valley as an infant and graduated from Central Valley High School.

He lived for a brief time in Pocatello, Idaho, and then moved to Colfax were he was employed by McGregor Co., Ernie Pyle Roofing and Stanard Contracting. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially enjoyed time on the Snake River and Rock Lake.

Surviving are three daughters, Shannon, Courteny and Reagon; and two brothers, Glenn and Jerry Standard, both of Colfax. He was preceded in death by a son, Ryan.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
