Southeast 1B boys, girls start District tournament

Oakesdale’s Jacey Johnson scored 28 points against Pomeroy Jan. 29. The Nighthawks enter the playoffs as a No. 4 seed.

The Colton girls again carry the No. 1 seed in the district tournament, beginning play Friday, Feb. 12, at home versus the winner of Oakesdale and Pomeroy, the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds, who played Wednesday night.

No. 2 seed Touchet will play Friday at home against the winner of No. 3 seed St. John/Endicott and No. 6 seed Liberty Christian.

The championship game will be played at Walla Walla Community College Feb. 19 at 6 p.m.

Consolation game will be played Saturday, Feb. 20.

The first and second-place teams will advance to the state sub-tournament, a one-game matchup with the winner going on to Spokane Arena.

BOYS

District tournament time has arrived in the Southeast 1B league with No. 1 seed Garfield/Palouse and No. 2 Liberty Christian both with a bye in the first round. The Vikings will play Saturday at Palouse against the winner of Pomeroy and Touchet who play at Pomeroy Friday.

Liberty Christian plays the winner of Colton vs. Oakesdale who meet at Colton Thursday night.

The tournament is double-elimination with two teams advancing to the state sub-tournament.

On Feb. 19, the district bracket continues at Walla Walla Community College with the championship game at 7:30 p.m.

Consolation game will be Saturday at 5:30 p.m. to determine the final slot to advance.

Colton 72, Oakesdale 61

Brady Chadwick scored 26 points, half of them in a third-quarter spree, to lift the Colton boys to victory over Oakesdale to secure third place in the Southeast 1B league heading to the district tournament.

Up by five at halfime, Colton outscored the Nighthawks 25-15 in the third quarter. Chadwick himself went five of six in one stretch, four of them three-pointers.

Colton's Carter Dahmen and Grant Kinzer contributed consistent scoring once again with Dahmen's 14 and Kinzer's 12. Peter Schultheis added 13 points.

The Wildcats are now 10-10 overall and 8-4 in league.

Parker Perry led Oakesdale with 25 points while Tristan Smith scored nine and Austin Rutledge eight.
