Sheriff’s Deputy Randy Zehm Feb. 17 responded to a report of a dead moose blocking the roadway on Cove Road southeast of Palouse at 7:12 a.m. Zehm said the moose was down in the southbound lane of the road just past mile marker three. The animal had sustained a fractured back leg on its left side and had obviously been hit by a vehicle, but the sheriff’s office did not receive a report from a driver. A search of the scene failed to turn up parts which might have fallen off a vehicle.
“Somebody obviously hit it, but right now we don’t know who,” Deputy Zehn said.
The dead moose was removed by a game agent.
