Three local museums will hold special events on Saturday, March 12, for “National Museum Day.”
The Tekoa Museum will hold a special opening from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. The museum, which is open and available by appointment and during library hours, is housed in the back portion of the Tekoa library. During this event refreshments will be served with volunteers available for questions.
“National Museum Day” is the one day per year that museums which usually charge will allow free public access. The event is sponsored by the Smithsonian.
Oakesdale’s McCoy Valley Museum will be open from 1 – 3 p.m. on March 12; they are normally open on Saturdays in March during those afternoon hours.
Although both the Tekoa and Oakesdale museums are free of charge, donations are accepted.
Finally, a newer museum to the Palouse area, the Palouse Discovery Science Center (PDSC) located at 950 NE Nelson Court in Pullman, is admitting for free the first 20 children who mention “National Museum Day” upon admission (groups are excluded in this offer, and all children must be accompanied by a paying adult).
The PDSC is launching a new exhibit “Paper Circuits,” and will be open from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. The “Paper Circuits” exhibit is an interactive project where children will be constructing their own paper circuits, complete with LED lights. The first 80 participants will be able to take their circuit home.
