A “thirty something” Jesus knew in his heart that there had to be more to life than he experienced as a small town carpenter. In his home town of Nazareth there was little that inspired him. Somehow, even the religious leaders missed the mark. The local government was filled with corruption and was hurting the very people it was called to serve. The Roman occupiers were misusing their considerable powers. The taxation system was an outrage.
