St. John/Endicott students recently participated in a Read Across America event.

On March 2, eighth grade SJE students celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday by participating in Read Across America day. Principal Bruce Porubek sent comments from some students about their participation in the event.

“I looked down the hallways, and I could see all the students outside their classrooms reading and having fun in celebration of Dr. Seuss' birthday,” said Chais Anderson. “It was great to see the little kids with Dr. Suess hats on too.”

Rachel Larson said the event was a combination of fun and learning.

“Everyone enjoys reading, so it was fun and beneficial at the same time,” she said.

Another student said the day made for a relaxing environment.

“I really enjoyed the opportunity to relax and read with my classmates,” said Drew Brewer. “It's always good to read.”

At the St. John school, some elementary students took part in the Read Across America event. Teacher Amy Watt coordinated the celebration which included a series of community readers, including Principal Mark Purvine, who showed up in a costume for the students. Many of the preschoolers and kindergarteners also dressed up.
