LARRY L. BABB

A graveside service for Larry L. Babb, 69, a resident of Potlatch, will be Saturday, April 2, 2016, 11 a.m. at the Colfax Cemetery with Pastor Bob Lambert officiating. Potlatch VFW Post and a United States Army honor guard will conduct military honors. A memorial service will follow at the Princeton Church of the Nazarene with a potluck dinner to follow at the church. Mr. Babb died Friday, March 25, 2016, at his Potlatch home after a fight with bone cancer.

Born Oct. 14, 1946, in Moscow to William L. and Audrey Lawrence Babb, he attended schools in Colfax and graduated from the Colfax High School with the class of 1965. He later attended the University of Idaho and received his bachelor's degree in education. He joined the United States Army Oct. 29, 1965, and served in Vietnam. He was discharged Oct. 28, 1968, as a sergeant and continued to serve in the National Guard until he retired after 26 years of service. He married Susan Draper in 1969 and the couple later divorced.

He married Paula Getz Dec. 3, 1971, in Coeur d'Alene, and the couple made their home in Potlatch where he was employed at the Potlatch Forest, Inc. for six years. Larry also taught high school industrial arts at Amanda Park, Wash., and at the Potlatch High School. He also was a long haul truck driver, and worked road construction as a heavy equipment operator until he retired.

Mr. Babb was a lifetime member of the Potlatch VFW, National Rifle Association, American Legion, North American Hunting Club and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Paula, at the Potlatch home; two sons, Bradley P. Babb, Spokane, and Travis Babb (Wendy) Potlatch; one daughter, Denise Bartlett, Spokane Valley; one brother, Fred Babb, Spokane; two sisters, Glona Evans, West Yellowstone, Wyo. and Mercedes March, Ione; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to Light a Candle Org. at Gritman Medical Center, Moscow; Potlatch VFW, Box 386, Potlatch; or the Potlatch Fire Dept. Box 63, Potlatch, ID 83855.

VELDA CONE ROSS

A memorial service for Velda La Rae (Cone) Ross, a lifelong resident of the Princeton-Potlatch area, was Monday, March 28, at the Princeton Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Bob Lambert and the Rev. Kathy Kramer officiating. Inurnment will be at the Potlatch Cemetery at a later date. Mrs. Ross died March 23, 2016, at Gritman Medical Center in Moscow.

Born on March 12, 1941, in the Potlatch hospital to Vincent and Lucille Cone, she graduated from Potlatch High School in 1959.

After high school she worked at several local businesses including Jonesie’s Drive Inn, Montgomery Ward and the Co-op in Princeton.

She married Thomas Todish in July 1962.

They had two children, Kelly and Kirk Todish.

Mr. Todish was killed in an accident while in Oregon.

After several years of raising two little ones, she married Neil Kinman of Princeton.

They had a daughter, Karla Rae, in March of 1968.

Mr. Kinman was killed in a blasting accident in the spring of 1970.

Velda and her children moved to Hampton to be close to her parents.

Velda and her older brother, Delfred, worked together at Cone’s Auto Service, which later became Napa Auto Parts of Princeton/Potlatch.

She continued to work with Delfred at Venture Real Estate and obtained her Realtor’s license.

She enjoyed showing properties and meeting new friends.

Velda married a former high school sweetheart, Jerry Ross, July 4, 1986.

Surviving are her husband Jerry, Princeton; brother Delfred Cone, Princeton; sister, Linda Osborne (Cliff), Potlatch; three children, Kelly Todish Smith (Brad) Meridian, Kirk Todish (Janice) Princeton and Karla (Kinman) Buck (Rob), Potlatch; four step-children, Debbie Chambers (Kent) Potlatch, Doreen Ducummon (Loren) Deary, Larry Ross, (Marilyn) Deary and Pam Katus, (Ray) Rathdrum; 19 grandchildren, and 15 great- grandchildren.

THE REV. KEN SHARP

A memorial service for Colfax native Ken Sharp, 61, pastor of Jackson Ridge Community Church in Rockvale, Tenn., will be at the First Baptist Church in Colfax at 2 p.m. Friday, April 1. He died Sunday, March 27, 2016, from complications of cancer.

The son of Laverne and Maryann Kramlich Sharp of Colfax, he graduated from Colfax High School with the class of 1973. He was active in Honor Society, music, sports and the First Baptist Church youth program. Pastor Sharp received an undergraduate degree from Washington State University and his Master of Divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.

He also served 14 years as pastor of Patterson Baptist Church in the Patterson community of Rutherford, Colo. Pastor Sharp for several years was vice president of Pathways Ministries and for many years organized and directed the Bible Reading Marathon in Mufreesboro, Tenn.

Surviving in addition to his parents here are his wife, Tammy Sharp, Rockvale; two daughters, Hayley Stanley and Hannah McDonald, both of Rockvale; two sons, Michael Sharp of Antioch, Tenn., and Derrick McDonald, Murfreesboro, Tenn; a sister, Kathy Sharp Russ and her husband Mike Russ of Tacoma.
