Serving Whitman County since 1877
The old Farmington jail is the subject of a new grant received by the town to ensure the structure's stability.
Built in 1907, the two-cell white brick building in the town park has started to show wear. It was listed in an Association of Washington Cities' (AWC) loss prevention report in February.
The town applied for and received a $5,000 grant from the AWC, granted in March. It hired J.U.B. Engineering of Spokane, for which Lane Merritt is the project manager for the jail which is now being used for storage.
J.U.B., which began a study of the jail March 30, will issue a report for work that needs to be done.
“You can see a two-inch split down the back of the building,” said city council representative Diana Oliver. “The gap has widened.”
