The annual Perkins House Ice Cream Social will mark its 44th year this summer, and an addition to its usual fare will be a cake-from-scratch contest, Perkins House coordinator Theresa Dale told the Gazette.
Dale said she has not finalized all of the details for the contest, but she said recipes would need to be completely from scratch.
“Just the way Mrs. Perkins would have had to do it,” she said.
Dale added that the contest will be a good way to mark the 130th anniversary of the Perkins House.
“It will just add something new this year, and people can decorate it to be a birthday cake or an anniversary cake or whatever they want,” she said.
Dale said those interested in participating should submit recipes to her. She said she will accept recipes from now until up to two weeks before the social, which is scheduled for June 26 from 1-4 p.m. She added that cakes will have to be made ahead of the social and brought there.
Although this detail has not been set in stone, Dale said the cakes may be auctioned off at the social rather than being eaten there.
“It will raise money for the house,” she said.
In addition to cake bakers, Dale is also looking for judges.
“I am looking for some good judges,” she said. “We'll hide you away in the kitchen and have you judge the cake.”
Those interested in participating in the cake-from-scratch contest should contact Dale at the Perkins House, at her home phone number or via email.
