Next week Afghani refugees will be in Pullman to tell their stories at the Community Congregational Church.
Nancy Mack, who is in charge of promotion for the event slated for April 14, said the refugees will show quilts they have made and speak about their journeys.
“It will just help people understand what is going on with refugees and how to help them and what they're going through when they settle in our area, ” Mack said. She added the quilts will offer a great representation.
“People can look at it and get the gist of what they're trying to say with the quilt,” she said.
Mack said the event is free and open the public. It will include “refugee-designed crafts” for purchase and ethnic food bites for free.
“The ethnic foods are to give people an idea of some of the foods the refugees may have tasted,” Mack said.
The event, titled “This is My Home Now,” is sponsored by the Community Congregational Church in Pullman, Artisans for Hope, Idaho Commission on the Arts, National Endowment for the Arts and Common Ministry at Washington State University. It starts at 7 p.m. next Thursday.
Free parking is available for those who attend at the church. The Community Congregational Church is located at 525 NE Campus Street.
