Colfax softball girls March 30 took both games against a Kettle Falls team which traveled from the opposite end of the NE chart to play a double which was delayed a day by the heavy rains the prior week.
Colfax won the first game 8-6 and won 9-6 in the second game. The two wins advanced the Colfax record to 3-2 on the season.
Colfax at one time had also been booked to play Liberty Tuesday, but that game date has been moved down the schedule to April 26.
Next games for the Bulldog girls will be Saturday against Lind/Ritzville/Sprague at Ritzville.
In the opener against Kettle March 30, Sarah Appel walked nine of the K-dogs, struck out six and allowed six hits.
Colfax collected 13 hits against Kettle pitcher K. Elliott.
Colfax booked a 7-1 lead after three innings. They scored three runs each in the second and third innings.
After that, it was a game of catchup for Kettle, and they closed it down to within a run at 7-6 by adding two runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Colfax added a run in the bottom of the sixth to advance the lead 8-6, and Appel shut Kettle down in their last-chance seventh inning half.
In the second game, the Colfax girls had a six-run charge in the second inning to take control of the game.
Pitcher Abbie Miller struck out two Kettle batters, walked two and allowed 11 hits.
Colfax eventually had a 9-2 lead going into the last inning, and Kettle came alive for four runs in the top of the seventh. Goldie Akesson came in to pitch to the last Kettle batter and struck her out to stop the visitors' rally.
Final score for the second Colfax win was 9-6.
Elliott, who pitched both games for Kettle, allowed the Bulldogs seven hits in the second game.
