Serving Whitman County since 1877
The Port of Whitman County reported at its meeting April 7 the Boyer Park and Marina project is nearing completion.
“They're paving this week,” Port Executive Director Joe Poiré told the Gazette Monday. Paving includes the 13 new RV lots as well as the area in front of four new cabins and the long-term camping area.
“I bet it's done in a week or so with the way everything's going,” Poiré said. “I didn't think the asphalt plant would open that early this year, and irrigation work is about what's left and a little bit of seeding.”
Poiré said everything should be good to go by early May. Work is still being completed for the inside of the four cabins, but that work is now being done by the Boyer managers.
An April 1 progress update provided by Port staffer Kara Riebold indicated 90 percent of the grading completed, 100 percent of the water work was completed, 96 percent of the sewer and septic work, 78 percent of road prep, 50 percent of irrigation and seeding, 57 percent of electrical, 55 percent of mobilization, 80 percent of bond and administrative work and 60 percent of the interior of the cabins. Poiré said by the time of the Port meeting on April 7, those figures were higher.
“Everything's over 50 percent complete,” he told the Port staff and commissioners at the meeting. “Things are rolling right along.”
The Port staff and commissioners are expected to hold a future meeting at Boyer Park and Marina where they will tour the Boyer project. That meeting is slated for May 5 at 10 a.m. and will start at the Port of Whitman County office on Mill Street before departing for Boyer.
