Habitat for Humanity plans dinner, auction

Palouse Habitat for Humanity will host its annual dinner and auction, Beans 'n' Jeans, Saturday, April 16, at the SEL Event Center in Pullman from 5:30 to 9 p.m.

The event will feature live bluegrass music by Forgotten Freight, a catered BBQ dinner by CD’s Smoke Pit, and live, silent and dessert auctions.

Raffle prizes include a Lenovo 2 Tab 8A tablet, and a two night stay at the MacDonald Marina/Resort in Bayview, Idaho.

Auction highlights include two unlimited round trip coach airline tickets on Alaska Airlines; four Disneyland Park Hopper passes; one of a kind artwork by noted local artists, photographers and quilters; a stand up paddle board from SRE; a snowblower donated by Pullman Building Supply; UI and WSU football and basketball tickets, and many more items and experiences.

Palouse Habitat for Humanity, the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, has been building affordable housing in Latah and Whitman counties since 1992. It just completed its 15th home, in Moscow, and is planning two home repair projects in the region this spring.

Candle sales

to aid Center

Friends of the Whitman County Library are sponsoring a new candle fundraiser for The Center project. Candles can be purchased at the library through Gold Canyon with 40 percent of the proceeds going directly to The Center project. Each candle is made in the USA and is priced at $20. Samples of all 15 candle scents being sold are available to test.

The Center will be a fully functioning community gathering space for education, the arts, innovation and small business. Currently the two front meeting rooms and a new back entry are under construction and scheduled to open early this summer. This phase of the renovation is projected to cost $120,000. When complete, nearly $300,000 in improvements will have been completed through grants and donations.

Garfield

Senior Meal

The Garfield Senior Meal is scheduled for Thursday, April 21, noon, at the Garfield American Legion/Grange building. The menu will consist of spaghetti with meatballs, pizza, garlic bread, green salad with dressing, dessert, coffee and punch.

CLUBS & YOUTH GROUPS

Athenaeum

Annual guest day for the Athenaeum Club will April 15 at 1 p.m. at the Methodist church. It will be hosted by the Yearbook Committee, and a presentation will be given by Joanne Hubbard on local history photos.

P.E.O.

Chapter AF met April 11 at Peace Lutheran Church with Liane Smith as hostess. Eighteen members responded to roll call by telling how they enjoyed the weekend.

Revised by-laws for P.E.O. were read to the members.

Brenda Kneeshaw gave a program on Common Core, detailing what students should know by the time they graduate.

Next meeting will be April 25 at the home of Diane Solbrack, hostess, with Karen Groom, co-hostess.
