Joanne Stravens Manchak

Joanne Stravens Manchak, Colfax native who resided in Santa Barbara, Calif., since 1972, died last Thursday, April 7, 2016, in Santa Barbara. She was 83.

Mrs. Manchak, who studied art in Spain, received many awards for her art work in the Santa Barbara area.

Born in Colfax May 1, 1932, to Joe and Florence Cronin Stravens, she attended St. John's Academy. After graduating from Colfax High with the class of 1950, she attended Seattle University and later moved to Long Beach, Calif., where she was employed as a model and secretary. She and Frank Manchak were married in 1955. He was an engineer for an American firm, and they lived in Madrid for eight years. She studied art at the University of Madrid. The family then lived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for several years before they moved to Santa Barbara.

She is survived by her children, Susan Manchak, Frank Manchak, Michael Manchak, Tina Cummings, Peter Manchak and Marie Manchak. Also among survivors are three brothers, James and Bob Stravens of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and John Stravens of Florence, Ore .; and a sister, Rosemarie Botticelli, Hayesville, N.C.
