Bulldog girls end Charger win string

Bulldog softball players posted two big wins over previously undefeated Mary Walker at Springdale Tuesday. The Bulldogs took the first game 14-8 and the second game 14-7. They totaled 19 hits for the day.

The wins move the Bulldogs' record to 6-3 in the NE league race.

Senior pitcher Sarah Appel struck out nine Chargers and walked five in the opener while allowing eight hits.

Colfax erupted for 13 runs in the first two innings

The Chargers came back with five runs in their half of the second inning but could not generate much offense after that.

Roxanne Allenbach, Sidney Sheer and Cheyanne Stokes each had three hits for Colfax.

In the second round at Springdale, the Bulldogs staked a 9-0 lead with a run of four two-run innings before Springdale's offense came to life with six runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Colfax managed to shut them down and then capped the day with a five-run blast in the last inning.

Colfax had 11 hits in the game.

Appel and Abbie Miller shared the pitching and together fanned six of the Charger batters while allowing five walks. Each Colfax pitcher allowed just two hits.

Lindsey Lindgren caught both games.

Goldie Akesson rapped two singles and stole three bases in the second game. Chelsea Becker paired doubles and finished with three RBIs.

Colfax Saturday booked a split Saturday at Ritzville. The host Broncos pegged a 10-9 win in the first inning, and Colfax came back with a 8-6 win in the second game.

In the opener, Colfax out-hit LRS 9-7 and scored two runs in the top of the last inning for an 8-6 lead with Stokes rapping a big hit.

The Broncos came back in the bottom of the seventh to score three runs and shut the game down.

Appel strained a quad muscle, and Akesson took over the pitching in the seventh inning with the bases loaded before a Bronco double ended it.

Coach Michelle Miller noted the seven Colfax errors took a toll in the opener.

The first game was tied 6-6 after five innings, and the teams went to 7-7 before the explosive last inning.

Appel allowed nine hits.

Appel and Ashtyn Aune each had two RBIs for Colfax in the first game.

In the second game at Ritzville, Colfax clobbered the Broncos with five runs in the first inning and made it stand up for the balance. LRS came within a run after three frames and tied it at 6-6 going into the last inning.

Colfax scored another two runs in the top of the last inning but this time managed to hold the lid on the Broncos in their half of the inning to peg the 8-6 win and advance their record to 4-3.

Aune and Becker accounted for half of the Colfax hits. Becker rapped a double and single and had two RBIs. Aune rapped two singles at the right times and had three RBIs.

The Bulldogs will host Reardan today, Thursday, at McDonald Park at 3 p.m. to make up the game which was called off in the season home opener four weeks ago.
