Colfax hammers big wins

Colfax softball players rolled up the runs at Creston for two big wins over the Wilbur/Creston Wildcats Tuesday to advance their mark in the league race to 9-3. The Bulldogs took the first game 23-8 with a 16 run barrage in the first inning.

They took the second game 22-7 after scoring 11 runs in the last two innings.

Sarah Appel and Goldie Akesson pitched the first game with Appel allowing one hit. Akesson went to the pitching ring in the second inning and allowed six hits while striking out two `cats.

The duo allowed WC batters just one walk.

Roxanne Allenbach had four hits in the first game and Lindsey Lindgren had three hits.

Coach Michelle Miller credited Cheyanne Stokes and Abbie Miller with strong defense up the middle.

The second game was close over the first four innings with the Bulldogs staking a one-run lead, 7-6, before they added four in the fifth, four more in the sixth and seven in the last inning.

Miller pitched the first three innings and allowed eight hits. Appel returned to the action and held the hosts to just one hit. She struck out eight of the 16 batters she faced and allowed just one walk.

Appel also had the big blast for the game with a grand slam, and Miller rapped four hits with a double and triple for four RBIs in the game.

Next up for the Bulldogs will be a Saturday home game with Rosalia Timberwolves in a double bill at McDonald Park.

Colfax Friday at McDonald Park hammered 15 hits in its makeup game with Reardan to post a 17-6 win after five innings and advance itsrecord to 7-3. Appel allowed seven hits, walked four Reardan batters and stuck out three.

Sidney Sheer booked an inside-the-park homer for four RBIs for the big hit of the day, and Cheyanne Stokes booked a 4-for-4 day at the place with a triple and three singles.
