Colton beats Patriots, falls to Genesee

It was a first in eight years on Tuesday afternoon in Colton.

The Wildcats softball team met Genesee for an annual non-league game and lost 10-3.

“I don't know what to think, I'm not used to losing,” said Colton coach Brad Nilson.

Genesee led the entire game, up 10-0 in the fifth inning.

Colton had just two hits in the game, both from Daylinn Smith.

On the mound, freshman Emily Schultheis pitched four innings to allow 10 hits with two strikeouts and three walks. Junior Emma Schultheis went three innings, allowing three hits with a walk and a strikeout.

Last Saturday, April 16, in Richland, Colton (6-3, 4-0 league) beat Liberty Christian in two games of a doubleheader, 20-6 and 18-15.

“We hit the ball well,” Nilson said.

In the fifth inning of the second game, the Wildcats trailed 12-7 when Rachel Meyer hit a grand slam to begin an 11-run inning, taking over the game.

On the day, Meyer went 3-for-3 with five RBIs while MaryAnn Jacobs was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Emily Schultheis went 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Game one leading hitters were Kendyl Druffel (3-for-4), Jordan Moehrle (2-for-5), Smith (2-for-4) and Abby Kelly (3-for-4).

The Wildcats play next at Colfax on Monday in a rare meeting between the 1B and 2B teams.
