Griner, Gar/Pal baseball outgun Eagles in two

Garfield/Palouse and St. John/ Endicott/ LaCrosse met twice in the last week for two doubleheaders, the Vikings winning all four games.

In the first game Tuesday night at Endicott, Gar-Pal's Mason Bates hit a seventh-inning double to tie the score, putting his team in position to win.

Evan Weaggraff pitched a complete game, allowing four hits in seven innings with eight strikeouts and three walks. For the Eagles, Tyler Anderson also pitched the whole game, allowing six hits with nine strikeouts and six walks.

“A really gutty performance from him,” said S.J.E.L. coach Kyle Schultheis.

Wyatt Griner led Gar-Pal batters in the game with two hits and an RBI, including a leadoff home run.

Wyatt Wilson led the Eagles at the plate with two RBIs.

In the second game Tuesday, Griner took the mound and threw a two-hitter in a 9-0 win.

He struck out 15 Eagles batters, allowing two walks.

“He overpowered us,” said Schultheis.

At the plate, Griner, Weaggraff and Casey Mitzemburg all had two hits.

On the mound for S.J.E.L., Terrell Webb pitched four innings to allow six hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Chase Schluneger went two innings with four hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

The doubleheader counted in league standings, in contrast to last Saturday's fill-in games which did not.

Playing at Endicott April 16, Gar-Pal won 15-3 and 15-0.

Griner threw a perfect game in the shutout.

At the plate, the Vikings hit four home runs on the day, including two from Mason Bates and one each from Griner and Mitzemburg.

“As young as we are, I think we're starting to play the game well,” said Schultheis. “We need to put some runs up to help our pitchers out.”
