Colfax girls add four more league wins

Colfax took two more NE league double wins this week to crank its league record to 13-3 with two more rounds of league action left.

Tuesday, April 26, Colfax defeated Liberty 19-2 and 14-4 in two five-inning games at McDonald Park. Saturday, April 23, Colfax topped Tekoa/Rosalia 25-1 and 15-5. Both of those games were also shut down after five innings under the 10-run rule.

Senior pitcher Sarah Appel threw a one-hitter at the Lancers in the first game Tuesday while striking out four and walking six.

Bulldog batters in the first game had 11 hits off Lancer pitchers Maybelle Buck and Lindsay Stern. After an 0-0 first inning Colfax scored eight runs in each of the next two innings to take control. Sidney Sheer led the bats with four RBIs off a triple and a single, and Maddie Shrope had three RBIs off two doubles and a single.

The two clubs locked up at 4-3 after the first inning of the second game, but Colfax added six in the second frame and three more in the fourth.

Abbie Miller pitched a five-hitter in the second game, striking out seven and walking six.

Colfax had 13 hits in the second game with catcher Lindsey Lindgren tagging four singles.

Saturday, Appel threw a one-hitter in the first game against the Timberwolves while the Bulldogs rapped a total of 15 hits for a 15-1 win. Roxanne Allenbach and Allison Dunning each booked 4-for-4 at the plate, and Miller and Sheer each hit 4-for-5 at the plate.

Ella Gregory had the lone hit for the Timberwolves.

Colfax took the second game 15-5 with Miller allowing the Timberwolves eight hits and striking out seven.

Monday, April 25, in a non-leaguer at McDonald Park, Colton’s softball team pegged a 4-0 lead after three innings and went on to defeat Colfax 9-5.

The Wildcats rolled on 11 hits off Colfax pitchers Appel, Goldie Akesson and Abbie Miller.

Kendyl Druffel booked three hits and Jordyn Moehrle, Rachel Meyer and Abby Kelly each had two hits. Colton pitchers Emma and Emily Schultheis held Colfax to five hits.

Colton, which led all the way, added four runs in the top of the sixth inning.

The Monday win by the Wildcats ended an eight-game win string for the Bulldogs.
