Wildcats prowling

Colton players convene after a Carter Dahmen home run in Endicott last Saturday. The Wildcats (16-1, 8-0 league) have a chance to clinch the Southeast 1B at Pomeroy Saturday.

A perfect game from Carter Dahmen and a no-hitter from Brady Chadwick highlighted 31-0 and 12-0 victories for Colton over St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse last Saturday.

Playing the doubleheader at Endicott, Dahmen threw 10 strikeouts over five innings.

At bat, he went 4-for-6 with a three-run home run and a double for six RBIs. Chadwick’s no-hitter also ended in five innings, with 10 strikeouts of his own.

A walked batter on a full-count pitch was the only thing to stop back-to-back perfect games for Colton.

The wins took the Wildcats to 15-0, 8-0 in league.

“They overpowered us with their pitching, there’s no doubt about it,” said S.J.E.L. coach Kyle Schultheis. “They’re a very good team.”

Throwing for the Eagles were several names.

“We had a slew of pitchers,” Schultheis said.

Terrell Webb opened in game one, throwing for three innings, followed by T.J. Harder, Bailey Hartman and Glory Dickerson.

In game two, Tyler Anderson started, pitching three innings before Eric Harder came in for the last two.

In the fourth inning, at bat, the Eagles’ Hartman drew the full-count walk to keep Chadwick from a perfect game.

OROFINO

Playing at home against Orofino Tuesday, Colton lost its first game of the year, 11-2, followed by a 15-0 blowout win.

In the first contest, a lineup of three young Colton pitchers gave up 14 hits.

“It’s been awhile since we’ve seen a lineup make us work that much, top to bottom,” said Colton coach Pat Doumit.

The Wildcats’ team managed five hits in the game, including two from sophomore Cameron Bean and a triple from Grant Kinzer.

In the second game, Bean took the mound – Dahmen and Chadwick still resting from their dominant Saturday at Endicott – and threw his first complete game. In five innings, he allowed three hits with six strikeouts and two walks.

“This is the second time in a row he’s beat Orofino for us,” Doumit said, noting Bean’s pitching last year.

At the plate for Colton, five players delivered two hits each, including Dahmen, Chadwick, Kinzer, Peter Schultheis and Parker Druffel. Chadwick and Druffel hit triples.

The first-game loss drops Colton’s record to 16-1 on the year, still 8-0 in league.

“The closer you get to the playoffs, you want to play teams like this,” Doumit said.

Colton will play next on Saturday at Pomeroy for a doubleheader and a chance to clinch the Southeast 1B league title if they win both games.

First pitch is at 11 a.m.

St. John/ Endicott/ LaCrosse (3-10 overall) will play next at home Saturday for senior day: a doubleheader against Liberty Christian starting at 11 a.m.
