Colfax school board selects Carrie Lipe for CHS post

Colfax School board has chosen a new high school principal. Carrie Lipe will be formally approved by the school board Monday, after a hiring process which began in March with the resignation of current principal Nathan Whittle.

Lipe comes to Colfax from her job with Spokane's District No. 81 as a teacher on special assignment, responsible for the science curriculum for grades 7-12. Previously, the Pullman High graduate taught science at West Valley High School in Spokane.

She earned her administrative credentials from WSU. This will be her first principal job.

The Colfax school board chose Lipe, to begin July 1, after evaluating nine candidates, interviewing three during a full day May 10, which included a tour of the school, interviews with students and a community forum in the evening.

“It was competitive,” said Superintendent Jerry Pugh. “A good turnout from the community, asking good questions.”

The other two finalists were Tim Gering of Bonners Ferry and Krisi Pratt of Orofino.

“We're appreciative of the support of the community, helping us choose the candidate,” said Pugh.

Whittle served as principal for one year.
