Colfax softball team sustained two defeats Tuesday in the playoff round at Merkel Field in Spokane to end with number-four entry out of the NE league. The first Colfax defeat came at the hands of Kettle Falls which made a big run the Merkel playoffs.
After edging Colfax 12-10 in the first game, Kettle went on to defeat Northwest Christian for the top slot out of the NE. The Crusaders were undefeated in the NE league run and were the top-seeded team going into the playoffs Tuesday at Merkel.
Next round for Colfax will be against Dayton Saturday in the NE-SE regional at 11 a.m. at Franklin Park in Spokane. The Dayton Bulldogs will arrive at Franklin as the number-one entry out of the SE league.
The entry at Franklin Park includes eight teams in a double elimination format. Six teams from regional round will advance to the state show which will again be at the Gateway complex in Yakima starting Friday, May 27.
Tuesday at Merkel, the Kettle Falls stacked six quick runs on Colfax in the early going of the first game. Colfax battled back to within a run, but couldn’t top Kettle which added two runs in the late going for the 12-10 win.
After the Kettle setback, the Colfax fate went downhill with a 15-3 loss to the LRS Broncos. The LRS club took out Colfax in five innings on the 10-run rule.
