Tekoa team tops state Envirothon

The team from Tekoa High School placed first in the 2016 Washington State Envirothon Competition at Fields Spring State Park in Anatone May 19.

They earned additional “best test” awards in the Aquatic Ecology and Wildlife categories.

Team members, left to right, are TaShanna Schneider, Ben Zimmerman, Mike Greybeck, Ryan Burtchett, Kynlee Dub and Darin Jenneskens.

Teams from all over Washington arrived May 18 for afternoon registration followed by an informative hike through the park.

Students were provided meals and lodging on-site and were sponsored by Conservation Districts from corresponding regions.

Hannah Rae Liss coordinated the event on behalf of the host organization, the Palouse Conservation District.

This event provides high school students with an opportunity to challenge their understanding of critical natural resource topics.
