The McGregor Company will award "Standing Tall for American Agriculture" scholarships to 10 local high school seniors this spring. The long-time regional family farm supply business has now provided 109 scholarships over a 14-year period to talented young future agricultural leaders in 53 rural communities of the Inland Northwest.
“We believe in encouraging young people to become future agricultural leaders—on the farm, in field research, in agricultural education and communication and in the farm service world. Talented, dedicated young people are vital to the future success of the finest enterprise we know, Inland Northwest agriculture,” said Alex McGregor, company president.
In addition to detailed applications, candidates submitted essays proposing methods that would dramatically improve agricultural literacy. The ideas will be shared with industry partners to create educational opportunities for everyone to better understand agriculture’s history and current economic, social and environmental significance.
Graduating high school seniors in Washington who will each receive a $1,000 scholarship include Anthony Wiley, Prosser; Kenton Lyman and Chandra Maki, Colfax; Hallie Galbreath, Ritzville; Kayla Beechinor, Walla Walla; Alexis Andrews, Ellensburg, and Sydney Johnson, Ellensburg.
Idaho seniors receiving the scholarships include Marisa Lustig, Cottonwood; Madison Fisher, Wilder and Miles Maxcer, Moscow.
