Cattlemen award

three scholarships

Recipients the Whitman County Cattlemen's Association Scholarships for 2016 include Gracie Dickerson of St. John and Tyler Kincaid and Kenton Lyman of Colfax. Each plans to pursue a course of study in an agriculture related field.

Association president Kim Weerts said all of the applicants have obviously worked very hard in school and participated in numerous school and extracurricular activities. The cattlemen were impressed by their applications and their desire to work and promote the industry of agriculture in years to come.

Wheatland potluck

Wheatland Grange potluck picnic will be Wednesday, June 8, 6:30 p.m., at Wheatland Grange at the intersection of Highway 23 and Trunkey Road. Bring a potluck dish and eating utensils. A grill will be provided.

Kamiak program

The next Whitman County Parks evening campfire program at Kamiak Butte County Park Saturday, June 4, will featured Dave Dolezilek, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, for a presentation on “The Power of the Palouse.” This program begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Kamiak Butte Amphitheater.

Dahmen Barn

high tea June 4

Theme for the Dahmen Barn's annual fundraising tea June 4 is "A Grand Tour of Europe " with live and silent auctions and a high tea.

The menu will features cuisine from many European countries. Participants can compete for a prize by wearing a European themed costume.

Concert series

set at Dahmen

Dahmen Barn in Uniontown will begin its second annual summer concert series June 11. Six performances are scheduled, two each in June, July and August. All will start at 7 p.m. with $15 admission. Tickets will be sold only at the door, beginning at 6:15 p.m. Wawawai Canyon wine and beer will be offered.

The schedule is as follows:

June 11: The Palouse Jazz Project, a jazz sextet comprised of faculty members from the Lionel Hampton School of Music at the University of Idaho. The group performs jazz standards and original arrangements and compositions.

The Wes Weddell Band, a Seattle group with local ties. Leader Wes Weddell, called a "modern day Woody Guthrie," graduated from Pullman high school in 1998. Brian Hoskins on keyboard was in the 1998 graduating class at WSU. Preview them at http://www.wesweddell.com.

July 9: Bridges Home, Dave and Tami Gunter, dual lead vocalists and multi-instrumentalists, performing Americana, Celtic, Roots & Originals. In the trio format, Bridges Home adds bass, three-part harmonies, foot percussion and miscellaneous other instruments to the musical mix.

July 23: Lucky Rowland and Keith Ochoa, two local musicians who play Country Rock. After high school Lucky discovered his passion for singing and riding bulls. He pursued a professional bull riding career and won many contests throughout the US and Canada.
