Crop diagnostic clinic scheduled June 17 at Spillman

The Crop Diagnostic Clinic will take place on June 17 at the Spillman Agronomy Farm for those interested in honing their crop production skills and improving crop management strategies.

According to Stephen Van Vleet, WSU extension agent, the clinic will consist of field crop demonstrations by specialists from WSU and the University of Idaho. The specialists include Drew Lyon, weed scientist, WSU; Kurt Schroeder, agronomist/plant pathologist, the U of I; Rachel Bomberger, diagnostician, WSU; Weidong Chen, research plant pathologist, USDA/ARS; Rebecca McGee, legume breeder, USDA, ARS; Stephen Guy, agronomist, WSU; Paul Carter, extension specialist, WSU and Van Vleet.

The field demonstrations will include disease and brassica, herbicide injury and symptomology, pythium resistance in chickpeas, aphanomyces and stemphylium in legumes, soil pH, texture and health and disease diagnostics.

The program on June 17 will begin with check-in at 8 a.m. with coffee, juice, donuts, muffins and fruit; 8:30 a.m. introductions and directions will take place, and 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. there will be five, one-hour sessions. In addition, there will be a complementary catered lunch included in the program. Registration deadline is June 15, with the registration starting at $50 for producers and $100 per person. On-site registrations can only be accommodated if space permits.
