Deliberation underway on McCown recall petition

Whitman County Superior Court Judge David Frazier last Friday decided to wait to make a decision on the petition for a vote to recall Garfield Mayor Ray McCown.

At the end of a hearing June 10, Frazier concluded by telling those present he will issue a ruling in writing sometime this week or next.

“Very serious issues have been presented here,” he said. “It takes close analysis.”

Rebecca Strange and Tami Southern, two of the petition signers, represented the proponents of the recall at the two-hour hearing.

McCown and Colfax attorney Guy Nelson sat at the other front table in the courtroom.
