Serving Whitman County since 1877
Journey Forward Designs, a summer camp for children aged 7-11 designed to encourage creativity and imagination, along with an awareness and respect for nature, will begin soon in Colfax.
Eight weeks of the summer camp will be offered for the youngsters, and children can either be signed up for individual sessions or the entire eight-week camp. If all sessions are chosen, cost to attend is $395 per child.
The first session will be June 20-24, and cost is $60 per participant. The eight weeks will be continuous throughout the summer, with the last session concluding Aug. 10.
Weeks four, five, six and seven are also $60 and will also be Monday-Friday. The other weeks – two, three and eight – will be three-day weeks (Tuesday-Thursday), and will cost $40.
Each week will include an art project, nature education and story-telling. The camp will be facilitated by Molly Rice of Colfax.
The summer camp will take place at Schmuck Park and begins at 10 a.m. each morning. According to a flyer for the camp, children should be dropped off daily at the park by 9:45 a.m. and picked up promptly between 1-1:15 p.m. each day. Only parents, guardians and pre-arranged authorized persons will be allowed to pick up a program participant.
The flyer also detailed that the dress code is “dress for mess” with good, closed toe walking shoes for outdoor activities and hiking. The camp will provide water and a light snack, and children are allowed to bring their own snacks as well as a cold bagged lunch.
