Pullman Chamber seeking help with Fourth of July celebration

The Pullman Chamber of Commerce is seeking volunteer help for its annual Fourth of July celebration which will be at Pullman's Sunnyside Park in the southwest area of the city. The Chamber is asking for volunteers throughout the day.

“We need help with all sorts of stuff,” said Kimberly Marshall, office manager at the Chamber.

“The annual celebration at Sunnyside Park is a fantastic event and a family favorite. But it takes a lot of planning, hard work, and – most importantly – volunteers,” a press release from the Chamber stated. “There are needs for volunteers before, during and after the celebration in a variety of areas, such as the children's area, food and beverage sales or even help cleaning up the next day.”

Marshall said volunteers are needed for two to four shifts at various booths, such as the cotton candy stand. She said a number of slots are still available. Additionally, she said, the Chamber seeks sponsors for porta potty rentals.

“We prefer to have sponsors pay for them,” said Marshall. “And they will be acknowledged with a sign in high traffic areas.”

A porta potty rental costs $55 per potty, and $75 for ADA accessible porta potties. Sponsor signs will be posted at the merchandise booth and the restroom area, both of which are the highest visibility areas during the celebration.

Marshall also stated that if volunteer help cannot be given throughout the day, help is also being sought for supplying desserts. The Chamber is seeking donated dessert items that can be sliced and sold at the park. She said donated desserts should not have ingredients which require refrigeration.

“They can make it ahead, as long as it won't spoil,” Marshall said.

Donation canisters are also at Pullman businesses to help fund the fireworks display.

“The donations help sponsor our fireworks every year,” Marshall said. “It's always nice to kick in a bit. We definitely want to keep it a free event.”

Pullman Transit will also be offering park and ride services for the event. The locations for the park and ride are available at pullmanchamber.com. The Fourth of July festivities at Sunnyside Park begin at 5 p.m., and fireworks will begin at dusk.
