Dusty residents celebrate the arrival of grandchildren

The Dick Appel family held a celebration on the occasion of the baptism of Grace Marie Appel. A dinner was held in her honor at the home of her parents, Neil and Liz Appel. Guests were her grandparents, Joe and Marybeth Phillips, Houston; Dick and Helen Appel, Dusty; Bruce Appel, Spokane; Eric and Shannon Appel and Kyle, Sarah and Sidney, Dusty; Connor and Christopher Appel, Pullman; Caroline and Rob Kunkel, Zack, Kade, Elly and Luciene; Lisa and Travis Frei, Miriam, Rachel, Emma and Colette and Father Al Grasher.

Mark and Kathy Vogler announced the arrival of their third grandchild, Samuel Pierce Vogler. Samuel was born June 14 to Henry and Cari Thompson Vogler, Bellevue. The grandparents traveled over the weekend to the Renton-Bellevue area to hold both new grandsons, Owen Assareh, age four weeks and Samuel, age four days, and to swing with three-year-old granddaughter, Iris Assareh.

Meggie Perron spent two days last week visiting her grandmother Fran Jones and uncle Bryan Jones. She is finished with classes at Walla Walla Community College but continues to work as a cashier at Home Depot.

Dusty Bible Church, Selbu Lutheran Church, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Methodist Church all had a part in the fast-paced Bible journey for Vacation Bible School. There were between 16 to 25 children who participated. Joan Myrick helped with crafts.

Amber, Ashley, Kloey, Ellie and Nick Brink came from Kennewick to join Grandma Di Brink for Vacation Bible School. Several days later, their father, Kevin Brink, joined them at the Brinks. Also joining them for supper that evening were John and Brandi Brink and Myla and Alexia, Colfax. Kevin and his children returned to their home Wednesday afternoon. The following Sunday, Larry and Di drove to Kennewick to the Kevin Brink family home for a barbecue.

LaCrosse High School class of 1966 held its reunion this weekend during Farmer's Festival in LaCrosse. Debbie Nieser Haddock and her husband, from Olympia, stayed at the Parsonage Bed and Breakfast during the weekend.

Sami BeDell, Walla Walla, and Alex BeDell, Portland, came home for the Farmer's Festical and Alex’s 10-year reunion for the LaCrosse High class of 2006. Sami returned to Walla Walla Sunday and Alex to Portland Monday.

Visitors at the home of Warren and Connie Horton this weekend were Connie’s sister and nephew, Judy and Rick Battin of Napavine. Rick came to attend a bee keeping seminar at WSU. Judy accompanied him to visit with her sister and brother-in-law. Also visiting the Hortons on Saturday was former LaCrosse schoolmate Dave McWhirter who had come to the area for the Farmer's Festival.

Several Dusty residents attended the funeral service in Moscow Saturday afternoon for Gerry Stubbs, area farmer and conservationist. A dinner followed the service at University Inn.

Larry and Karen Scaggs, Tehachapi, Calif., arrived at the home of his brother, Loren Scaggs and Beth Christie, Friday to spend time visiting with them and with the men’s mother, Lorraine Scaggs, Colfax. Saturday, the two couples spent the day at Priest Lake. Larry and Karen left Tuesday to visit Karen’s relatives on the west side of the state.

Apricot season will soon begin at the Warm Springs Ranch at Penawawa. Mike and Patsy Kromm, George, were there tending the orchard Saturday.

Reminder: Cross Country musical group will present the morning worship service this Sunday morning June 26, starting at 10 at the Selbu Lutheran Church.

Karen Broeckel attended a celebratory pig roast at the home of Ken and Pam Beasley in Waitsburg Saturday. The party was in honor of their son Zachariah receiving his degree in mechanical engineering from WSU. Other Whitman Country attendees included the honoree’s grandmother, Jeanette Nolan; his aunt and uncle, Gwen and Greg Nolan, and his cousins, Andrew and Emily Nolan, Lauren, Grady, Holden and Murphy, all of Colfax.
