set next week
The "Matt Baker Comedy Stunt Show" will be at the Colfax Library June 28 at 4 p.m. The show is as much vaudeville as it is stand-up comedy.
Baker's resume includes a Guinness World Record, appearances on America's Got Talent and Last Comic Standing, plus performances in 14 countries and in all 50 states.
Another family program available this week will be Jim Nelson and his falcon at the LaCrosse park June 29 at 10:30 a.m.
Rosalia Library Thursday, June 30, at 10:15 a.m. will have a "Fifties Fun and Games" with hula hoops, jacks and maybe even Elvis.
Empire offers
free movie tonight
The Tekoa Empire Theatre wants to say thank you to Whitman County residents and all the family members who visited during Slippery Gulch. They will have a free movie tonight, Thursday, June 23, at 7 p.m.
Concessions will be sold and all profits will benefit the theatre. The theatre encourages attendees to brush up on movie trivia, as prizes will be awarded.
Kamiak program
Whitman County Parks evening campfire program at Kamiak Butte County Park Saturday, June 25, will feature Dan Leonard on “How Plants Move ” an interactive event designed for kids up through junior high age. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Kamiak amphitheater. In the event of inclement weather, the program will be in the Park’s Larch Shelter.
Radio hams set
Field Day June 25
Palouse Hills Amateur Radio Club ‘radio hams’ will set up and demonstrate public emergency communications from 9 a.m., June 25, through the night until noon, June 26, at the Latah County Fairground in a national event called Field Day. In this free event, they will make hundreds of contacts with thousands of amateur radio operators across the country.
Demonstrations include the WSU Hydrogen Fuel Cell and solar cells that provide power for radio use. Amateur radio licensing testing will be offered Saturday.
Library plans
e-reader sessions
An e-reader open house will be at the Colfax branch of the Whitman County Library Thursday, June 30, from 10-6. Library staff members will explain how OverDrive can be used to download books in a desired format.
Attendees should bring their own device, but a limited number of sample devices will also be available. Free WiFi is available for all guests and patrons, according to Jessica Wilson-Saia, technology support specialist at the library.
Classes are scheduled in St. John July 11, Rosalia July 14, Palouse July 26 and Malden July 27. A complete list of dates and times can be found at the Events Calendar at http://www.whitco.lib.wa.us or by calling the library at 397-4366.
Palouse floriade
to mark 10th year
The Bank Left Gallery & Bistro's 10th annual floriade in Palouse will debut the work of Pullman artist Kelly McGovern and feature the art of Jim Gale and Marty Bolick. This art exhibit will also feature a garden to table floriade luncheon at The Bank Left Bistro, a home and garden tour and a commemoration of the 130th anniversary of the historical home of chef Nelson Duran.
The art opening is June 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The luncheon will be noon to 2 p.m. for $13 per person, and the home and garden tour from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for $10 per person. Tickets can be purchased at the Bank Left Gallery.

Chapter AF met June 14 at the home of Robyn Johnson. Fourteen members responded to roll call by stating what they have planned for summer vacation. Cheryl Lothspeich was welcomed as a new member. A thank you note from Chandra Maki, recipient of the P.E.O. scholarship, was read.
Johnson reported on her attendance at the state P.E.O. convention at the Davenport Hotel in Spokane June 3, 4 and 5.
Next meeting will be Sept. 26.
