Life-long Dusty resident Oscar Broeckel dies at 93

Oscar Broeckel, 93, Dusty native and life-long farmer in the Dusty area, passed away Sunday, June 26. He is survived by his children Doreen (Tom) Riedner, Dusty; Denise (Tony) Kendall, Tacoma, and Brian (Angela) Broeckel, Dusty; three step-grandchildren, Alex, Sami and Graham BeDell; one brother, Randall (Pat) Broeckel, Vancouver; and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 1, at the Country Bible Church three miles south of Dusty on Highway 127 with burial following at the Dusty Cemetery. Oscar Broeckel was one of the mainstays of the Dusty community and will be greatly missed.

Lucky Myrick was surprised Father’s Day weekend by a visit from sons Richard Myrick and Jannetta, Moses Lake; Mike Myrick, Spanaway, and grandson Michael Myrick, Yelm.

Colene Sager rented a Cessna 172 at Inter-State Aviation at the Pullman Airport, and she and Vicki Broeckel had intentions of spending the day in LaGrande, Ore. Clouds over the Blue Mountains hindered that flight, but they enjoyed a flight to Walla Walla, then back to Pullman for a mocha at the Daily Grind.

Art and Colene Sager went to Wenatchee Thursday, June 23, to fly their new airplane, a Mooney M20J, back to Dusty. Saturday, they flew to Colfax to attend the Fly-In breakfast sponsored by the Lerwiston EAA. They were honored to have their new plane chosen for the Best Contemporary Plane award. Sunday afternoon, they flew to Moses Lake to attend a birthday party for Vic Franz, who turned 96 this week.

Saturday, June 25, Lucky and Joan Myrick celebrated Joan’s birthday with Larry and Di Brink. Sunday, they went to Spokane to celebrate their anniversary with Joan’s cousin, Camille Patterson.

Sunday, June 26, many Dusty residents attended the golden wedding anniversary celebration for former Dusty residents, Norm and Gloria Erickson, at the Onecho Bible Church. The event was hosted by their children and was attended by many relatives and friends.

Weekend visitors at the home of Kim and Cindy Pitts included daughter Carrie Pitts of Yakima and grandsons Rafe and Tate Carlson of Spokane.

Sharon Edwards Urtaza, Las Cruces, N.M., has been visiting with her aunt, Fran Jones, and cousin, Bryan. She is the eldest daughter of the late Virginia Jones Edwards and Neal Edwards, formerly of Spokane. Warren and Julie Jones were Friday and Saturday night guests.

Blake, Carmen, Justin and Range Heaton attended the Saturday afternoon wedding of Justin Aune and Elizabeth Gradwohl at the Springwood Ranch in Thorp. Joining them on the trip was Emily Alexander, Carmen’s mother.
