Serving Whitman County since 1877

Novice swim season starts July 5

Swim coaches have booked a run of 15 swim meets in the Tri-County Novice league which will get underway Tuesday, July 5. A total of 16 meets have been booked with most of them on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Jill Cocking of Colfax, new league coordinator, said league coaches and officials opted to work out the league schedule via e-mails instead of conducting a pre-league league session.

The league lineup matches last year and will include Dayton, Pomeroy, St. John/Endicott/ LaCrosse, Colfax, Pullman and Garfield/Palouse/Oakesdale and Plummer.

The addition of Plummer, which has four swim racers this year, means the team logo, GPOP, will show up on the team shirts.

The league has booked its final all-league session for Saturday, Aug. 6 at the Colfax pool. The pool discussion earlier in the year included the possibility of moving the all-league meet elsewhere, but the coaches opted to book it back at Colfax for this year.

Colfax pool is operating with one of its two water heaters out of commission.

At Colfax, Serena Roberts is coaching the team for her fourth season. Helping her this year are Cigne Reynolds, Robin Huber and Juliene Sager. Colfax has 62 swimmers on the team, and they are practicing between 8:30 and 10 a.m.

Colfax pool will be closed to the public at 3 p.m. on the three league meet dates here. The regular season schedule will wrap July 28 with Pomeroy swimming at Dayton and GPOP hosting Pullman, SEL and Colfax at Palouse.

The Jerry Cluckey Memorial Championship will be Aug. 6 at Colfax. The Colfax pools will be closed that day to host the big meet.
