Peter Zornes memorial marks ninth year

The ninth annual Peter Zornes Memorial Golf Tournament was played Saturday, June 25, at the Colfax Golf Course. The tournament raises funds in support of the Peter A. Zornes Memorial Neuroscience Scholarship at Washington State University.

Golfers enjoyed lunch, an 18-hole scramble, a catered Italian dinner and a silent auction.

Top team honors for the day with a score of 50 went to the team of Seth Thomas, Boise; Austin Mudd, Black Diamond, and Tyler Barkstrom, Spokane.

Second-place with a 54 was turned in by the team of Alex Gordon, Wade Winegardner, both of Pullman, Jake Stewart of Palouse and Kelly Stewart of Albion.

The coveted highest team score (recently re-branded “The Most Honest Team”) honors and specially designed prizes, went to Michael Bohm, manager of Shopko Pullman, and his crew of Sara Hoiness, Michael Howard and Jarrod Johnson.

Winning a Carnival Cruise for his putting proficiency was Tyler Barkstrom in a hotly contested shoot-off.

Other finalists were defending putting champ, Chris Niles, of St. John, and Jake Stewart.

Longest drive was awarded to Thomas while Randy Pfaff, Oakesdale, took closest to the pin. They each won two tickets to a major sporting event of the choice: MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL or PGA.

The annual Friend of the Tournament award was presented to Michael Stack of Oakesdale in appreciation of his time and energy spanning several years in support of the event.

Concluding the day was a grand prize drawing for a Cancun Getaway for two. The winner of this special package was Jeff Black, Spokane Valley.

Volunteer staff included Lynn Haley, Halle Wiemar, (the 2016 recipient of the Zornes Scholarship), Ashleigh Gustavson, Julianna Brutmann and Shimin Tan, all from WSU, as well as Mike Stack and Marilyn Wigen of Oakesdale.

Kai Seshiki of Summit Therapy in Pullman provided PT and First-aid support.

Rounding out the crew were Peter’s family, Kathy, Tom and Joy Zornes, all of Oakesdale, Peter’s Grandpa, Don Reich, Colfax and Tom and Gena Reich, Kennewick.
