Here is an eye opener.
Three countries so far have issued official travel warnings about visiting the United States.
Most often, it is the United States announcing warnings about foreign travel.
Now, it is the other way around.
The violence and racial tensions in this country have prompted foreign governments to warn their citizens about travel here.
The United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Bahamas have issued specific warnings. Reportedly, New Zealand, Australia, Austria, China, Russia and Belgium have issued cautionary advisories.
Basically, the warnings concur that America can be unsafe for tourists.
The violence in the United States over the last few months has highlighted fears of traveling here.
Most of the warnings urge travelers to use extreme caution and avoid certain situations.
The country is experiencing dangerous divisions. Some claim minority citizens are openly targeted by police. Protesters are taking to the streets. Police are being targeted.
The violence has come to such a head that the police resorted to using a bomb to kill an assassin in Dallas. This may be the first time that law enforcement has used such force domestically.
As a result of all this, the international perception of America seems to be that it is awash in violence.
These warnings for tourists from different parts of the world should be an equally strong warning for Americans. The state of the union is troubled.
Only we can calm the waters and solve the problems facing us.
We have done it in the past. This is the time to do it again. And, we have to do it without extremism and without violence.
