Colfax robotics camp filled, another added

Students from across the county took part in a 4H Adventure Robotics Camp at the Colfax Public Service Building July 13-15.

Campers built their own robot, programmed it and competed against other robots during the three-day camp. The competition involved a soccer game challenge and a barrel racing course.

Camp teachers and helpers were WSU Whitman County Extension interns Mariah Julson, Kaitlin McDevitt, and high school 4H Palouse Area Robotics Team SciBorg members Tristan Call and Callum McCubbin.

“We have been offering this camp for five years now,” said Janet Schmidt, County Director and 4H Youth Educator. “Demand for programs like this is high and continues to grow. Sadly, we had to turn people away. This year we had students from as far as Rosalia and one visiting granddaughter from Vancouver, Canada.”

A second 4H robotics camp has been added in Pullman Aug. 9-11. Sessions run from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., at Umpqua Bank Conference Room, 225 N. Grand Ave, Pullman.

Camp registrations are requested by Friday, Aug. 5. Registration fee is $20 per person and includes use of robotic equipment, snacks and T-shirt. To register call 397-6733.
